Tips and tricks from my travels so you have the best to experience possible.
Ask yourself the following: What type of cruise do I want to take, where do I want to go and what type of experiences do I want to have?
I’ve cruised to the Caribbean, New England/ Canada, Mexico/ Central America, the Mediterranean/Europe, Asia and the Canary Islands/ Africa.
I recommend going someplace you’ve always wanted to visit, if in the US don’t limit yourself to just the Caribbean, even though this is an excellent first cruise choice.
Once you make a choice. Do a quick google search about what’s going on at the ports you will be visiting. Knowing what’s going on In the news, the exchange rate, local laws/ religion or country can help you know what to expect. Make an effort to be respectful of the culture.
Research what the island is known for… is it spices, scuba diving, luxury shopping, historical sites, etc. This will help you plan your time, excursions/ tours and the make the most of your trip.
Remember this is an experience where you can do as much or as little as you want. But I would suggest making the most of the cruise by being aware. Look up cruise activities for your sailing, karaoke, exercise, dance class, sports, cocktail making, arts and crafts, informational meetings about the destinations you’re heading to, gambling/ learn casino games, or see a show. And depending on when you travel, especially during the Holidays there may be additional theme nights, like costume contest for Halloween, instead of just the traditional formal night or captains/ dress to impress nights.
What to To wear on a cruise….
Overcome the urge to bring everything. I understand wanting options but don’t over pack, and remember to save space for souvenirs.
I know this is often easier said than done, especially if your want to make sure have cute memorable photos.
I suggest you be strategic.
Remember to bring a jacket or cardigan, it may be chilly in the evenings even in warm weather locales.
Bring a rain poncho/ or consider a travel umbrella for your unexpected rain burst, purchasing from dollar store can save a little coin, compared to if purchased while out during the rain, it may be 5x more.
And what I think is most helpful to not overpacking and to save space is to coordinate your wardrobe. Try creating a capsule wardrobe of interchangeable pieces.
This helps to minimize shoes/ accessories bringing too many makes luggage heavy.
You’ll need Casual outfits for days at sea , exploring and at least two more outfits for formal/dress up nights.
Also If you’re more active during the day, workout clothes or something to change into for dinner, some love the buffet, but I like to take advantage of eating in the dining room whenever my vacation itinerary allows.
Vacation is a great time to Live life to the fullest and try something new. What will you do, where will you go?
