Ok. I admit it. I’m a maximalist. I love to mix patterns and prints. When is “more is more” better? When adorned or full of the things you love and just put a smile on your face. A curated collection pulls a space together and makes a house feel like a home. A home that represents and screams this is my home!
I was drawn to dark and moody colors. I still love neutrals. Usually the contrast between dark woods and light walls draw my eye, with pops of color here or there. But for this home and at this point in my life I decided to make a statement. I want the artsy, editorial look. I’m going for dark walls ( the look I got when I told people I’m painting this or that black, made me chuckle, and yes I’m serious ), abstract florals and geometric prints.
Goal is to have an ornate glamorous vacation feel to every space. I’m already loving the dark tones, black and charcoal, with mixed metal accents of brass, chrome and nickel are all working for me.
First thing on the list was to replace the light fixtures. No builder boob lights here.
Second give peel and stick wallpaper another try, as well as, traditional paste the paper.
Third was to paint. I chose to do something unexpected or usually an after thought, which is paint the laundry room first. I chose a lovely metallic paint that I figured would coordinate well with my washer and dryer.
Fourth will be to paint the entryway black and create an art gallery.
Fifth will be to create a custom closet and create custom storage in the laundry. The wire shelf is already gone and most materials purchased.
And the last big project for a while will be to make the patio a relaxing retreat and truly use as an outdoor living space to make that vacation in the mountains feel complete.
So, I’ll be a weekend warrior decorating over the next several months.
